Genetic Testing

1) MTHFR
Why is MTHFR Genotyping Important?
Certain mutations in the gene coding for MTHFR produce an enzyme that has reduced ability to process B12 and folic acid. Inadequate amounts of B12 and folic acid can lead to elevated levels of homocysteine (a.k.a. hyperhomocysteinemia), which increases risk of illness. Adequate or optimal levels of B12 and folic acid aid with detoxification, hormone balancing, energy production, sleep, mood, and brain function. Our special MTHF injection done at our office is made to help those with the MTHFR gene mutation.

2) Pathway Genomics
We also offer state of the art genetic testing. Genetic testing is a growing field and can provide a great deal of valuable insight into an individual’s genetic susceptibility to certain illnesses. Genetic typing can even provide information regarding the ideal diet for your genetics, and for cardiovascular health.

STRESS TESTS: Adrenal Function & Neurotransmitters

Cortiol testing:
Using a salivary cortisol test, we can measure the health of the
adrenal glands by measuring levels over the entire day. Four saliva
samples are collected morning, noon, evening, and night to establish
cortisol production over time. We can fix your cirdadian rhythm, burn out
and sleep concerns.

Neurotransmitter testing:
Using a urine test from Neurosciences, we measure levels of neurotransmitters
produced which have an impact on mood, brain function, immune health, melatonin production, and adrenal
gland health. Seratonin, dopamine, adrenaline, noradrenaline, PEA, histamine, GABA and glutamate will all
be included in this panel.

What Supplements Do You Really Need?

Discover the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients your body specifically needs and what it is deficient in with our simple blood test.

This enables you to tailor your supplement protocol to your individual needs. We will draw the blood in our office for you.

Follow up with your results in a 45 minute one-on-one visit with the doctor. They will recommend the supplements needed and ensure you are on the best quality professional supplements. Guidelines will be discussed about how and when to best take the supplements, how to avoid interactions with medications and also what foods are needed in your diet to ensure adequate nutrition is being met.

Covered completely under most PPOs
$170 HMO test price
$340 (cash price)

A visit with the doctor to interpret results will be done once the results come back.

Blood Work

Done after the first visit.

During the first appointment with Dr. Austin, she will put together a lab requisition form for you to bring to a local lab near your home for the blood draw. What is being tested for is individual and will be determined from the initial meeting when the patient shares their symptoms, health concerns and goals. Blood work is more extensive than what a patient is used to with their doctor as hormones and nutritional tests are usually included in the work up. Blood work is covered under most PPO plans. If you do not have insurance coverage, we will provide you with at cost tests to prevent you being charged insurance prices.

Body Composition Test

Using bio-impedance analysis (BIA), your fat pounds, water in your body, muscle mass and how many calories you need to eat to ensure weight loss will be calculated for you. With this information, we keep track of your weight to ensure you are losing fat pounds and not losing muscle mass. It is recommended to do this test every month to monitor progress. For best results, use this in coordination with our First Line Therapy program.

Thermography is a non-invasive diagnostic exam which uses infrared cameras to detect early signs of pre-cancerous tissue.  By detecting minute variations in normal blood vessel activity, infrared imaging may find thermal signs suggesting a pre-cancerous state of the breast or the presence an early tumor that is not yet large enough to be detected by physical examination, mammography, or other types of structural imaging.

In addition to the exam of the breast and abdominal area, a 30-minute consult to go over the results with the doctor is suggested. Please call our office to book your thermogram or on-line at book online.

Food & Chemical Sensitivity Testing

These detailed results allow us to develop a comprehensive nutrition plan for the patient to follow based on her/his individual needs.

Food Test Panels

Comprehensive Panels

Chemical and Mold Panels

NOTE: Links to the Alcat website are for your information. You will receive the testing kits at the visit.

Food and environmental sensitivities
Food and environmental sensitivities are at the root of many chronic
symptoms, including congestion, fatigue, IBS, brain fog, and even
behavioral issues. A simple blood test can help to determine which
sensitivities are present, therefore helping to eliminate bothersome
chronic symptoms and improve overall health. We use several different labs
depending on your needs:

-Alcat – Comprehensive panels including food and environmental
sensitivities. Price varies by panel.

-Cyrex – The definitive laboratory for comprehensive gluten
sensitivity screening plus several arrays (panels) for multiple
autoimmune markers, gut barrier integrity, and more. Price varies by
panel.

-Genova – A serum antibody test that determines reactions to 87 foods,
with optional add-on hypersensitivity reactions to additional foods,
spices, and inhalants such as pollens and mold. $184 with some
insurances.

-USBiotek – An easy fingerstick test measuring 96 various foods, with
add-ons for inhalants and IgE foods. A great choice for kids as
fingerstick testing is less invasive than a blood draw. Cash $139,
add-ons $85 additional.

-ImmunoCap – Individual or panel immunological testing for food and
inhalants through conventional lab companies. Panels can be used to
formulate sublingual immunotherapy, an alternative to allergy shots.
$6.50 per IgE antigen.

Heavy Metal Testing

Heavy metals
Heavy metals such as mercury are common in our environment. For susceptible individuals, toxic heavy metals can cause fatigue or neurological issues and interfere with the body’s proper functioning. Urine testing is used to determine the body’s burden and gentle therapies can help to remove the dangerous metals.

Digestion and Immune System Testing

Digestion
Digestive health is foundational to the health of the entire body. Testing can determine the health of your entire digestive tract and get to the root of issues and imbalances. Testing can reveal issues with inflammation, enzyme production, infections, parasites, and the balance of probiotic bacteria. Anyone with digestive problems can benefit from a full analysis.

Hormone Testing

For men and women. You will receive an evaluation report including your test results, details of your current symptoms, and an analysis of your hormone status. The test results will help you identify hormone imbalances, metabolic risk factors and overall wellness prior to the appearance of symptoms or disease. The results may also identify specific imbalances associated with symptoms, establish baselines prior to surgery or at the beginning of therapy, as well as monitor hormone levels while supplementing.

Hormone testing
When hormones are balanced, the result is great energy, mood, vitality, brain function, and maintenance of a healthy weight. Adrenal, thyroid, and male and female hormones all play a key role. Many methods of testing are available, and naturopathic medicine is very effective in hormone replacement or balancing.

Covered under most PPOs and a flat price for HMOs and cash paying patients.
